A Day in the Park for Chloe: A Cape Cod Family Team's Day to Honor their Daughter and Support the Mission of the March of Dimes

This is Sabrina Ewing and her Family Team's, Chloe's Angels, 3rd year walking in March for Babies. This is their 2nd year to host A Day in the Park for Chloe.

My first baby was born on the day of his baby shower, almost eight weeks before his due date.  What had been an easy and uneventful pregnancy quickly became the scariest time of our lives.  Jake weighed only 3 ½ lbs and was immediately taken from me and brought to the NICU over an hour away.  It was three days until I was able to see him again.  Three days that I was a mother without my baby.  Jake was hooked up to so many monitors and tubes that it was scary to see him, but I finally held my baby in my arms.  I was one of the lucky ones.  He spent almost six weeks in two different hospitals before we could bring him home.

When we found out I was pregnant with a little girl we were so happy, but also a little scared.  Our doctors were amazing and again I had an easy pregnancy.  But, at 35 weeks my blood pressure spiked and I was put on bed rest in the hospital.  Knowing how hard it had been with Jake we wanted to keep her safe and try to wait another week before delivering her.  Then the worst happened, the unimaginable.  We weren’t able to keep our little girl safe.  Chloe Marie Ewing was stillborn on July 11, 2009.  Our family was devastated.

We needed to do something to honor our little girl and to make sure that her memory was kept alive.  A Day in the Park for Chloe did that, but it also did so much more.  It allowed us to slowly start to heal.  And it gave our friends and families a way to show their love and support at a time when no one knew what to do or say.  A Day in the Park for Chloe is an event with kids’ activities, music and food.  We ask local businesses to donate items that we raffle off to raise money.  All of our proceeds go to the March of Dimes.

Our family team has evolved from Team Jake to Chloe’s Angels.  Jake, now an energetic and happy 3 year old, walks with us and this year my son Max, born one year after we lost Chloe, will join us as we walk with other families who have walked in our shoes.
