Dear Family Teams,
Welcome to the 2012 Boston March for Babies! This year’s walk will be held on Saturday, May 12th.
My name is Abby Stern and along with my husband, Derek, and two sons, Jared and Jeremy, we are honored to be this year’s Boston Ambassador Family for March for Babies. I am also happy to be serving as the Chair for the Boston Family Team Committee. As you can see, our family is very committed to the March of Dimes!
Our family started walking in 2005; almost two years after our twin sons were born 12 weeks prematurely. Zachary lost his fight for life after only 7 hours and Jared spent 180 days in the NICU. He has had an extensive medical history along with developmental delays, but we are so proud to say he is now an active and healthy 8 ½-year-old boy in the second grade. He has come so far and although the NICU days are a thing of the past, I do not forget for a moment those grueling first months. We know first hand that the research the March of Dimes has done (and continues to do) is the reason that Jared is here with us today. We vowed back then that we would support the organization that gives so much to help our little ones survive.
We are so proud to have walked for the past 7 years and to have been part of such a wonderful day. My sons know that we walk each year in memory of Zachary and in honor of Jared, and they look forward to March for Babies each and every May. I am sure that it is a special day for you and your family as well.
I would like to thank you for helping Boston family teams raise $268,000 in 2011. With your help again, our goal for 2012 is to raise $300,000 in family team dollars out of a budget of $835,000. This year, consider increasing your family team goal by increasing the number of walkers on your team who raise money. It is a great way to raise more money! If you have not yet registered for the 2012 Boston March for Babies, you can go to www.marchforbabies.org and login using your username and password from last year.
