Family Team, The Fay Sisters started walking in Worcester's March for Babies because of the premature birth of their daughters, Lily and Alana. We are very thankful for their work on behalf of the March of Dimes, and for the health of their little girls.
Lily and Alana
Shock and disbelief is what my husband, Billy, and I felt when our twin daughters, Lily and Alana were born 9 weeks early at 3.7 pounds and 3.5 pounds. I felt I had to be the emotional support for all of us, hoping that our family would follow my lead. Everyone was so scared and even though I was terrified as well, I felt I needed to take charge. As a mother of now four children, I am above all a caretaker and I needed to take care of my daughters who were desperately struggling in those tiny bodies, for their lives. I can’t begin to tell you what a humbling experience it was but I needed to be as involved as I could, going on rounds everyday just for peace of mind because I couldn’t take care of my babies the way they needed to be taken care of. I couldn’t give them everything they needed. We had a toddler at home as well and so every day they were in the NICU was a constant balance and challenge. It was the longest 63 days we have every experienced and days we will never forget. Living through an experience like this has given us strength we didn’t know we had because now we know we can do anything.
