Anzio's Checks-in to Support Healthy Babies

In June 2011 my husband Todd and I gave birth to our son Nathan. A week later our son passed away.  This profound loss opened our eyes and hearts and we became determined to help other babies born too soon, too sick, or too weak.

Last year we formed a team, Baby Nathan’s Angels, and participated in our first March for Babies walk in Worcester, MA.  Most of the money we raised was from close friends and family.

A few months later Todd opened a restaurant, Anzios Brick Oven Pizza in Grafton, MA.  All the while, I began thinking of a plan to raise money for this year’s March for Babies that would reach beyond our close net of family and friends.  I saw the perfect opportunity to raise money to support babies and at the same time increase exposure for our fledgling small business. The plan I came up utilizes my online marketing experience, traditional fundraising techniques and the use of my husband’s restaurant.
The Plan (4-Pronged Approach)

During the week of Tuesday March 5th – Sunday March 10th we will raise
money in 4 ways:
1. Like Anzio’s on Facebook between the 5th – 10th. We will count
all new likes that come in during the week and donate $1.

2. Check-in on Facebook or Foursquare with your mobile device
and we will donate $1. We will include instructions for those
customers that may not know how to check-in.

3. We will ask customers if they would like to make a $1 donation as
they pay their check. Anzio’s will match all donations.

4. Lastly, we will sell ($20) purple shirts with the Anzio’s logo that
include a $5 off your next visit coupon. 100% proceeds going
to the March for Babies.

We realize that some customers may already “like” us or may not have the
ability to check –in so we included the traditional ask for a donation to the
plan.

This Can Work for You, Too
You don’t need your own business to do this, you can do this too.  You just need to find a business that has a heart and that is eager to get some great online exposure.  These days social media is becoming more important for small business,  to not only increase the online brand reach, but to improve search rankings, and ultimately drive sales.
Innovation In search and social is progressing rapidly.  The more customers interact (likes, check-ins and comments) with brands on Facebook the higher they will rank in the new Facebook Graph Search that is coming soon.  This is a huge opportunity for small businesses.

Armed with this data, go out and find a business that would love to reach more customers while helping to support a great cause. You can do this too.
