Let’s Get this Block Party Started!

In 2010, at just 24 weeks pregnant, my water broke and our daughter, Sydney, was born two weeks later weighing 1 pound 14 ounces. Sydney spent 3 months at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Thanks to the work of her outstanding doctors and the support of the March of Dimes, Sydney is now a thriving 2 year old. Our family became very involved with March of Dimes in DC and over the course of two March for Babies proudly raised over $12,000. Last year, I was honored to speak at Nationals' Stadium in front of an amazing crowd of walkers to share our story and thank, from the bottom of our hearts, Sydney's doctors, our family, friends, and the March of Dimes.

We have recently relocated to the Boston area and are eager to get involved again. With complicated pregnancy number two underway, we are thankful to know that such a wonderful support team exists here too. We look forward to being a part of it and to making it to that crucial 39 week mark!

To channel our creative energies and put our love of babies, scrapbooking, and general craftiness to good use, my best friend (also expecting this summer!) and I launched Blocks & Crafts. Our company offers a kit that provides everything needed to create a completely custom set of high-quality wooden blocks for the children in your life.

These kits - a Block Party - are a fantastic craft to do with the kiddies, a unique gift for a mom-to-be, grandma, new siblings...the possibilities are endless…but our favorite is an activity at a baby shower. Friends and family can join in the Block Party and use the adorable provided pre-cut paper, shapes, stickers, glue, and letters to decorate an individualized set of blocks for the new baby. Photos, markers, and stamps can be added to spice up the party and make the set even more personal.  Please visit our Etsy shop at blocksandcrafts.etsy.com to see our Block Parties available for boys, girls, gender neutral, or customized for your needs.

As our small way of thanking this incredible organization for all that it has done for our family, a portion of the proceeds from every Block Party sold will be donated to the March of Dimes. We know these funds will go towards crucial research and care for mothers-to-be, babies, and families in need. We will have a table set up in the Family Tent at this year's Boston March for Babies and invite all of the kids to stop by and decorate a block in honor of themselves or a loved one. We will donate the completed set to a local children's center in need of toys.
